Join us in recognizing Larry O’Connell, Chaplain at Community Hospice & Palliative Care, for being nominated as our January HERO of the month!

Larry used his expertise to provide a patient’s son with support during a critical moment in his life. As Andrea McClendon, Registered Nurse explained, “I had a patient with two sons. The younger son has special needs and lives with his older brother. The older brother came to me and expressed his concern about his younger brother’s ability to understand what was happening to their mother and her health. He felt Larry might be able to help his brother understand the situation with their mother.”

As Larry was leaving for the day, Andrea approached Larry and explained the brother’s situation to Larry, saying, “I know you’re going home now, so maybe you can see him tomorrow.” Larry then asked if the older brother was there now, and went to visit him.

“Larry spend quite some time counseling the man. It appears to have eased both the brothers’ minds. I was truly impressed with his dedication to helping our [patients’] families cope with losing a loved one.”

We’re thankful for Larry’s commitment to making Community Hospice & Palliative Care the Compassionate Guide for end-of-life care.
