When pain or symptoms can no longer be managed at home, families in Jacksonville’s Southside, Mandarin, and Baymeadows corridor need a place built for this exact situation. The Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring at 4266 Sunbeam Road is Community Hospice & Palliative Care’s dedicated inpatient hospice facility in Jacksonville, staffed and open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

This is not a hospital floor or a converted wing. The Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring is a freestanding, purpose-built inpatient hospice facility and Community Hospice’s oldest Center for Caring, open since 1995.

A Dedicated Hospice Facility, Not a Hospital Floor

Most inpatient hospice care happens on a designated floor inside a general hospital, amid acute medicine activity. The Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring is different.

Located at 4266 Sunbeam Road in Jacksonville’s Southside, the Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring sits between San Jose Boulevard (SR-13) and Philips Highway (US-1), within close reach of Mandarin, Baymeadows, and the I-295 beltway. Community Hospice & Palliative Care, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and the largest nonprofit hospice provider in northeast Florida, operates the facility. Community Hospice has served Jacksonville and the surrounding region for 47 years.

The Center opened in 1995 on the vision of the late Earl B. Hadlow, a Jacksonville attorney and Community Hospice Board member who identified the need for dedicated short-term inpatient care that could function as a “home away from home” for patients and families. The Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring remains Community Hospice’s flagship freestanding Center for Caring and serves as the organization’s administrative headquarters on the same campus.

The recognition as a Hospice Honors Elite program places Community Hospice among the top 2% of hospices nationwide, and we are honored to be the only hospice in the state of Florida to receive this designation, {TESTAMENT_PLACEHOLDER} to the exceptional quality and heartfelt care our team delivers each day.

The Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring is one of nine inpatient Centers for Caring operated by Community Hospice across northeast and north central Florida. Together, those Centers and Community Hospice’s broader care teams serve approximately 1,500 patients per day.
