Get Involved: What training is required to become a volunteer? The amount and type of training varies depending on the area of volunteer service that interests you. Our volunteers are prepared for the role through training conducted by Community Hospice staff and volunteers. In addition to patient/family and office/clerical volunteer opportunities, we also have specialized volunteers who provide assistance and support for our Community PedsCare, complementary care and pet therapy programs. Office/clerical volunteers are required to complete a four-hour training course. This training will cover Community Hospice history and philosophy, being a volunteer ambassador, and listening and communication skills. Patient/family volunteers must complete an additional 12 hours of training. This training will cover topics including pain and symptom management, infectious diseases, standard safety precautions, body mechanics, family dynamics, spirituality, bereavement, and the role of the volunteer in Community Hospice care. Training programs are coordinated by the volunteer services department and are offered on a regular basis in various locations throughout Northeast Florida. For more information on upcoming training classes, go to Event Calendar. More in this section:
