What it means to be a Community Hospice volunteer

Community Hospice volunteers are diverse and special members of our community. Aged 16 and up, volunteers make a commitment to Community Hospice for at least one year after completing volunteer orientation and training. Our volunteer services department works closely with all volunteers to ensure their talents and skills are matched with current needs in the best way possible. When you join our volunteer team, you receive specialized training and a one-on-one meeting with our volunteer services staff before choosing which volunteer opportunity is most comfortable and right for you.

Patient/family volunteers visit patients in their homes or in long-term care facilities. When visiting a patient's home, volunteers usually visit for two to four hours at least once a week. Volunteers visit patients in long-term care facilities for an hour once a week. Patient/family volunteers also may sign up to volunteer at any of Community Hospice's inpatient facilities – the Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring in Jacksonville's Mandarin area, the George and Margaret Morris Center for Caring at Shands Jacksonville Pavilion, or the Dr. Gaston J. Acosta-Rua Center for Caring on the Westside.

Office/clerical volunteers contribute their time at the administrative offices of the Hadlow Center or at one of Community Hospice's other administrative office locations in Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties. They can choose to volunteer Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
