Community Hospice Reports More than $365,000 Earned for Community PedsCare From 2007 Halloween Doors & More Event

JACKSONVILLE, Florida - Community Hospice’s third annual Halloween Doors & More raised more than $365,000 for its children’s program, Community PedsCare.  More than 1,600 people attended the popular family gala held at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds Exhibition Hall on October 13th.  Community PedsCare (pronounced peedscare) is a pediatric palliative and hospice care program for local children with life-threatening conditions.

Said Community Hospice Foundation Executive Director DeAnn Collins, “The funds raised by the Halloween Doors & More event are very significant to the operation of the PedsCare program.  Since the event was started three years ago, proceeds from the Halloween Doors & Event have exceeded $1 million.”  She added, “This event has helped us double the size of the Community PedsCare program, which means we can help nearly 100 local children suffering from life-threatening conditions instead of 50.”

Integral to the success of the event was its hard-working team of co-chairs -

Rebecca Schwam, Lara Siewert and Pamela Steitz – and an army of volunteers.  Special thanks are also extended to the event’s Honorary Chairs, the DuBow Family, and event sponsors, which include:  Petway Family Foundation, Weaver Family Foundation, Zurich Insurance Services, Inc., DuBow Family Foundation, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, The Bower Family, Dannehl and Kevin Twomey, Lazzara Family Foundation, The McBride Family, The Schwam, Siewert and Steitz Families, PGA Tour, PRI Productions, SkyeTec, Stellar Foundation, Linda and David Stein, Nemours Children’s Clinic, University of Florida/Jacksonville Pediatrics Department, Wolfson Children’s Hospital, Wachovia, The Players Championship, The Falloon Family, Acosta Sales and Marketing Company and First Coast News.

Community PedsCare is a program of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida in collaboration with Wolfson Children’s Hospital, Nemours Children’s Clinic and the University of Florida.  Established in 2000, Community PedsCare provides palliative and hospice care to children with life-threatening conditions. Community Hospice of Northeast Florida is at the forefront of children’s palliative and hospice services and its Community PedsCare program has served as a model for other organizations across the country.
