Cypress Village Residents Donate $35,000 JACKSONVILLE, Florida - Cypress Village residents proudly presented a $35,000 check to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida on May 1 to dedicate the Family Counseling room at the Anne and Donald McGraw Center for Caring, a Community Hospice inpatient facility, which is under construction near Cypress Village on the campus of Mayo Clinic. The Family Counseling Room is a home-like, private area where patients and their guests can consult with end-of-life care professionals. The gift is a combination of individual contributions from Cypress Village residents and proceeds from the Cypress Mart, a resale shop for items donated by residents. "I have been very impressed with Community Hospice. I know so many people who have benefited from their services," said Kitty Huff, a resident of Cypress Village who coordinated the donation. "When I saw the sign announcing the construction of this new facility right next door to Cypress Village I knew this donation would be perfect." Through a seven-figure gift from the Donald C. McGraw Foundation, the facility is named for Anne and Donald McGraw. Their son, Josh McGraw, serves as president of the Donald C. McGraw Foundation, which was started by his grandfather. He accepted the check on behalf of Community Hospice. The Anne and Donald McGraw Center for Caring will open in Fall 2007 to serve the end-of-life care needs of patients in southern Duval County, the Beaches area and northern St. Johns County. When completed, the 23,000-square-foot facility will include 16 inpatient beds in private rooms in a unique homelike setting, complete with gardens, screened-in porches and ponds. Visitors will have 24-hour access. Overnight stays by loved ones are encouraged, as are short visits by family pets. Established in 1979 as the first hospice program in Northeast Florida, Community Hospice of Northeast Florida provides compassionate care to more than 1,000 patients daily in Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties, through the support of more than 700 employees and nearly 1,000 volunteers. The nonprofit organization has served more than 43,000 children and adults—at home, in long-term care facilities, hospitals and through its three inpatient facilities in Jacksonville. Community Hospice Foundation generates philanthropic and community support for unfunded and under-funded programs, including indigent hospice care, programs and services through the Charles M. Neviaser Educational Institute, and Community PedsCare, a pediatric palliative and hospice program. Care is available to all patients who need it, regardless of their ability to pay. # # #
