Latest News: Halloween Doors & More Raises Over $400,000 for JACKSONVILLE, Florida - DeAnn Collins, executive director of Community Hospice Foundation, announced today that over $400,000 was raised during its second annual Halloween Doors & More gala event. Halloween Doors & More was held on Saturday, October 14th at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds Exhibition Hall. The money raised will benefit Community PedsCare, a pediatric palliative and hospice care program for children with life threatening conditions. "The community really came forward to help support this program," said Susan DuBow, chairperson of the event. "We thank everyone who was involved in this year's event," said DeAnn Collins. "From our volunteers to our sponsors, we could not have done it without you." Halloween Doors & More is designed as a family friendly event for children and adults of all ages. During the event, children met their favorite characters and went trick-or-treating at Fantasy Doors, ranging from The Jolly Pumpkin to the newest addition The Toy Factory. They enjoyed a trip to CandyLand and a variety of entertainment at Trick-or-Treat Theatre. Adults enjoyed the Grown-up Grotto and everyone boogied in the MonsterMash Family Disco. Community PedsCare is a program of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida in collaboration with Wolfson Children's Hospital, Nemours Children's Clinic and the University of Florida. Established in 2001, Community PedsCare provides palliative and hospice care to children suffering from life-threatening conditions. The program currently provides care for up to 100 children and demand for the program is great. Community Hospice of Northeast Florida is at the forefront of children's palliative and hospice services and its Community PedsCare program has served as a model for other organizations across the country. Established in 1979 as the first hospice program in northeast Florida, Community Hospice of Northeast Florida provides compassionate care to nearly 1,000 patients daily in Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties, through the support of more than 700 employees and 1,100 volunteers. Community Hospice Foundation generates philanthropic and community support for unfunded and under-funded programs, including indigent hospice care, programs and services through the Charles M. Neviaser Educational Institute, and Community PedsCare, a pediatric palliative and hospice program. Care is available to all patients who need it, regardless of their ability to pay. # # #
