Community Hospice Names Three New Directors

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Community Hospice of Northeast Florida has announced the promotion of two employees—Michael Helinsky, director of information technology, and D. Dewayne Sims, Jr., R.Ph., director of pharmacy services. The organization has also hired Dennis A. Burns, PHR as director of human resources.

In his role as director of information technology, Helinsky will be responsible for overseeing the activities of the information technology department to accommodate the computer, voice, data, network and security needs for more than 700 employees in Community Hospice's five-county service area. He has over 13 years' experience in the information technology field and started at Community Hospice in 2002 as information technology manager. Helinsky and his family live in north St. Johns County.

Community Hospice's director of pharmacy services, D. Dewayne Sims, Jr., R.Ph., has over 25 years' experience in institutional pharmacy. As director of pharmacy services, he will oversee pharmacy operations and monitor and amend current pharmacy practices to best serve the needs of nearly 1,000 Community Hospice patients a day. In addition, he will supervise the durable medical equipment department which carries out the allocation and distribution of medical equipment to patients. Sims started at Community Hospice in 2002 as pharmacy manager. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Washington's School of Pharmacy. Sims and his family reside on Jacksonville's southside.

As director of human resources at Community Hospice, Dennis A. Burns, PHR will be responsible for administering human resources policies, programs and practices including human resources strategic initiatives, diversity, compensation and benefits, recruitment, employee development and training, performance management, employee relations and employee health for more than 700 Community Hospice employees. He is a certified professional of human resources (PHR) designated by the Society for Human Resources Management. Burns received a bachelor's degree from the University of North Florida and master's degree in business administration from the University of Central Michigan. Before joining Community Hospice in 2005, he worked as human resources manager for TNT Logistics and Home Depot USA. Burns resides in west Jacksonville.

Established in 1979, Community Hospice of Northeast Florida has served more than 38,000 children and adults at home, in long-term care facilities, hospitals and through its two inpatient facilities in Jacksonville. The Community Hospice Foundation provides funding for unfunded and under-funded programs, including indigent hospice care, the programs and services through the Charles M. Neviaser Educational Institute and Community PedsCare. The nonprofit organization currently has more than 700 employees providing compassionate care to more than 950 patients daily in Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties.
