Get Informed: Pain Management
What can I do to help manage my pain?
- Tell your caregiver and your doctor when you are in pain and ask for treatment.
- If your pain treatment isn't working for you, tell your doctor and ask for more specialized pain treatment if he or she cannot manage your pain.
- Regularly ask your doctor about all of the treatments and therapies available to you; new advances in pain treatment are made every year.
- Make sure prescriptions are taken according to directions. Don't suffer needlessly while waiting for the pain to return before taking pain medication.
- Let family and friends help you manage your pain. Ask for assistance with everyday tasks if your pain gets in the way.
- As your condition changes, share your concerns and discuss your choices often with caregivers and doctors.
