Family Caregiving

What can I do to help someone else who is caring for a sick loved one?

Even a seemingly small act can make a big difference in a caregiver's day. Whatever role you have in a caregiver's life, there is something you can do to support him or her:

  • Give the caregiver a break – an hour to catch a nap, an opportunity to visit with friends, or time enough for a shopping trip.
  • Offer to do some household chores, run an errand, or make a meal.
  • If you are an employer, offer some flexible options such as telecommuting or job sharing.
  • If you are a family member, lead a family meeting to discuss ways to share responsibilities.
