Get Informed: What if I am in the role of making medical decisions for someone? Talk to the friend or family member you're caring for about their wishes for end-of-life care. Should you be in a position to make decisions, you will need to know all you can about what they do and do not want, such as whether they would want to receive life-sustaining procedures. One way to approach this conversation is by talking about advance directives, in which people put in writing their preferences for end-of-life care.
