New Grief: Good Grief

Each of us will experience grief at some point and while it is a universal experience, it is also a unique one.  There are no healing formulas or "right" ways to manage grief but there are healthy and effective ways to cope and achieve balance in our lives.  New Grief: Good Grief is designed to help individuals who have recently experienced a loss to identify common grief reactions and to learn healing is possible. The one-hour group workshop will help attendees:

  • Recognize the loss and begin to accept the accompanying pain
  • Identify physical and emotional reactions to the loss
  • Learn ways to help alleviate bereavement-related stress
  • Become familiar with the healing process

Wednesday, September 15, 6 – 7 p.m., Dr. Gaston J. Acosta-Rua Center for Caring, 5450 Ramona Boulevard, Jacksonville   Map

Friday, September 17, 3 – 4 p.m., Charles M. Neviaser Educational Institute of Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Building 100, Jacksonville   Map

Camp Healing Powers®—More Info

Friday, September 10 – Sunday, September 12, Camp Marywood Retreat and Conference Center, northern St. Johns County

Community Hospice's Camp Healing Powers is a therapeutic camp experience open to any child, 7 to 17 years of age, who is grieving the death of a loved one. Mental health professionals who specialize in grief and bereavement collaborate in the design of camp and lead camp activities that help children identify and express their feelings and learn skills to help them navigate through the grief journey in a safe, supportive and fun environment.

Campers engage in age-specific activities focused on grief education, emotion identification and expression, development of coping skills and maintaining a connection with the loved one.

The death should have occurred between 90 days and two years prior to camp.

A $35 deposit reserves a camper's space and is returned upon completion of camp.  Spaces are still available for boys 12 to 17 years old. Registration deadline is August 31, 2010. Pre-camp assessments are necessary for all camp attendees.   Please call 904.407.6222 for more information and to schedule an assessment.
